And you, my friend, can do the same thing.

But how do you go from slaving for somebody else to starting a business, ditching your day gig and launching that perfect business that you love?

I’m here to tell you it’s not as difficult as it seems.

”The way to get started is to quit talking and start doing.”

Simple Steps on How to Start A Small Business

Find Yourself

You need to have an honest understanding of yourself to find your best business match.

Here’s how:

Take a self-assessment

They force you to be honest with yourself, face your personality and characteristics for what they are, and find the most suitable business choice. Oprah’s website has a great one. http://www.oprah.com/inspiration/who-are-you-meant-to-be-self-assessment-quiz_1; Entrepreneur also has a great assessment that can help identify which type of entrepreneur you are. https://www.entrepreneur.com/article/207000

Determine your goals

Why do you want to be an entrepreneur? Why a small business owner? Is your goal to have more time with family? To have a more flexible schedule? To take ownership of your life? To make more money? To prove something to yourself? Whatever your goals are for choosing to start a business, make sure to incorporate those into the identification of your business. Do your industry research to determine if this type of business will satisfy your goals.

Identify your skills

What are you most excellent at? What is your “one thing” or “few things” that you are masterful of? People person? Writing? Crafts? Finance? Counseling? Marketing? Cosmetology? Management? Music? Photography? Fashion design? We all have one or many skills so make a list of everyone you can think of and consider the potential each has in becoming your small business opportunity.

Evaluate education/experience

The fact of the matter is, some careers require a degree or training while others don’t. If you want to start a marketing company for non-profits – you’ll need the appropriate education and experience. But if you wanted to start a jewelry business, you might be okay by being self-taught. And though you should consider your education and/or experience when tossing around business ideas, pull possibilities from random courses in art, random side gigs in promotions, or whatever else is in your background. What your specializing in today surely doesn’t have to be what you’re planning to start a business in.

The Honest Truth about How much it cost to start a business

You don’t always need a lot of capital to get a business up and running. Sometimes you can get started with little to no funding. (Yes!) Starting a business with no money might initially seem like a far-fetched idea, but it’s not impossible.

Ask yourself what you can do and get for free

It’s easy to come up with a list of obstacles standing in the way of you and launching your business. It’s often harder to come up with a list of opportunities that are right in front of you. If the thought of starting a business with no money scares you, stop and reflect on what you can do without right now.

What’s essential to your business? Do you need the slick, custom-designed website when you’ve only perfected three items for your new store? Could you do with creating a Facebook page to promote your business locally, instead? Or, would it make more sense for you to post your products for sale on a site like Etsy? Would it make more sense for you to design your marketing materials on Canva? Could you barter and trade your skills/products/resources with someone else instead of payment?

To say there are a lot of free resources on the web is an understatement. Make a list of what you need for your business and then research free alternatives on the web. It might take time, and perhaps even require you to pick up some extra digital skills, but you’ll save funds when you need them most.

My Story.

I Was Just Honest!

I let my boss try by BBQ Sauces and he liked them. I then told him I would like to start a BBQ Sauce Business. He told me to let him know how he can help. That gave my BBQ Business a free office, phone, computer, copier and all kinds of other office equipment. To this day my ex-boss and the other employees still buy my sauces.

It’s all about relationships!
